What are SpLD's
Specific Learning Differences - SpLD's (sometimes referred to as specific learning Difficulties) is a term which encompasses Dyslexia and other learning differences.
SpLD's may include;
- Dyslexia
- Dyspraxia
- Dyscalculia
- AD(H)D - Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder.
SpLD's effect individuals in different ways, no two people will be affected in exactly the same way, as with all human beings we are individual and unique.
It is this individuality that causes so much controversy in the area of research and trying to find one definition to define SpLD's.
We were recently told that there are over 70 definitions of Dyslexia alone!
Each of these SpLD's may have different negative, and positive, affects on different people and are often a cause of great frustration in daily life for those who are affected due to a lack of both provision and diagnosis.
The DDC recognises that as individuals we have, individual learning styles, individual way of doing things as well as individual gift(s) or talents to offer the world and that it is our job as educators to nurture, enable and encourage each individual to reach their true and full potential.
The DDC can offer expert training that gives insight into what employers and teachers who work with people with SpLD's can do to nurture, enable and encourage each individual to reach their true and full potential. In turn this can enable the whole organisation or company to achieve more!
